Under the Population Health approach to Primary Health Planning, the Illawarra-Shoalhaven Medicare Local (ISML) is aiming to gain a comprehensive understanding of the local health needs of the local catchment.

With that aim, ISML is putting together substantial plans and strategies to undertake qualitative assessments of the community and healthcare provider perceived health service needs for the region under the Health Collaborations Project.

ISML is aiming to conduct a series of stakeholder consultation forums to liaise with all relevant parties and health service providers, namely general practitioners and other general practice staff, allied health professionals, aged care service providers, social and community service providers, local government councils, non-government organisations and acute and sub-acute service providers, amongst several others.

Dates and venues of these population health consultation forums will be confirmed shortly and all regional healthcare providers and ISML stakeholders will be sent invitations for RSVPs soon.

ISML is also conducting the following surveys, one for all healthcare providers in the region and one for the general community of the Illawarra-Shoalhaven catchment to gain a detailed understanding of the health service gaps and issues as perceived by our local community residents and regional healthcare providers themselves.

Findings from these consultation sessions and surveys will be correlated with the quantitative assessment of health, social and demographic data presented in ISML’s recently released Population Health Profile: 2013 to enable the planning and implementation of timely, appropriate and effective primary health care services within the ISML catchment.
