Aboriginal Artists Fellowships

Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for the Illawarra and South Coast, Gareth Ward is encouraging local Aboriginal artists to apply for the 2015 NSW Government Aboriginal Arts Fellowship.

Mr Ward said the $30,000 fellowship will support an Aboriginal artist to showcase their work and expand their skills.

“This fellowship is a terrific opportunity for an Aboriginal artist to undertake professional development,” Mr Ward said.

“The fellowship will allow the recipient to undertake a self-directed program of professional development that could include travel, mentorships, residences, workshops, research and creation of new work.

“It is available to Aboriginal artists in all art forms including collections and cultural heritage, community arts and cultural development, dance, literature, multi-art form, music, theatre and visual arts,” Mr Ward said.

Acting Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant said the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is committed to supporting Aboriginal artists who contribute to the social and cultural richness of our State and produce works combining traditional stories with art.

“The fellowship program will unearth the quality of our Aboriginal arts and cultural sector and provide an artist with an opportunity to broaden their skill set,” Mr Grant said.

Applications for the fellowship close on Monday 10 August. For more information and details on how to apply, visit www.arts.nsw.gov.au
