Apply now for a position with the Shire of Halls Creek as a Remote Youth Development Officer servicing the communities of Mulan, Billiluna and Ringer Soak in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia

The Youth Service Diversion Program is an innovative and unique service that has been undertaken by the Shire of Halls Creek since late 2013. The program was specifically designed to cater for the needs of the young people of the East Kimberley region of Western Australia who have a history of complex trauma and complex needs. The Youth Service Diversion Program provides various methods of interventions to these youth in realms such as safety, mental health, alcohol and other drugs. The program employs Youth Development Officers across four different locations – Halls Creek, Mulan, Billiluna and Ringer Soak.

The Youth Service Diversion Program provides a client-centred case management approach in supporting young people and receives clientele through various referring bodies. These referring bodies work closely with our Youth Development Officers to provide a multi-agency approach to countering youth disadvantage in the region.

The role is an amazing opportunity to create a positive social milieu in one of the world’s most beautiful natural environments. Situated in the heart of the Kimberley, the Halls Creek Shire is a cultural epicentre with 6 great art centres and is the gateway to a range of world renowned natural attractions; including the World Heritage listed Bungle Bungle ranges of Purnululu National Park and Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater (the second largest on earth with a diameter of 850 meters). Halls Creek is also the fourth fastest growing shire within Western Australia.

For the role, we are looking for highly motivated individuals with an ability to calmly respond to the pressures of living and working in a remote community. Previous experience in the Kimberley region and knowledge of the local culture is well regarded
