Wollongong City Council is the host Council of the Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards 2017. This is an annual event that seeks to recognise Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal achievements through eight categories.
This event is the only event of its kind and is an opportunity for communities, businesses and organisations to celebrate the contribution and achievements of Aboriginal communities in Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven Local Government Areas. The NAIDOC awards are made possible with the support of our partner councils, corporate leaders, government agencies, non-government organisations and individuals.
In line with the 2017 NAIDOC Week Theme of ‘Our Languages Matter’ the dinner event is an opportunity to raise awareness of the “essential role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language plays in cultural identity”.
This year’s event will be held at the Fraternity Club on 22 July, with an expected 500 community members, sponsors, dignitaries, Elders and award recipients in attendance.
