KCC NEWS – AWARDS
Kiama Community College’s student, Cassandra O’Carroll, was recently announced National Runner Up of the SBAT National Award 2020 having previously been awarded NSW School-Based Apprentice Trainee (SBAT) of the Year and acknowledged by our local MP Gareth Ward in NSW Parliament.
Cassandra has been undertaking her School-based Traineeship in the threatened species section of the environmental services department of Shoalhaven City Council since 2019, while completing a Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management School-Based Traineeship with HVTC and Kiama Community College.
During the devastating 2019/20 bushfires, Cassandra was able to apply the scientific skills she had learnt at Kiama Community College and helped injured wildlife.
Cassandra deeply values the mentorship she has received from her colleagues. She is expanding her knowledge of the local environment and the challenges it currently faces so she can help to protect it.
Cassandra volunteers with National Parks Wildlife Services, was a speaker at climate rallies, and is a member of the Youth Voice group who promote positive change in their communities.
