FREE Older Person Mental Health First Aid Training

We invite you to register for FREE Older Person Mental Health First Aid Training in the Shoalhaven.

The 12-hour (2 day) Older Person Mental Health First Aid course is for any interested adult, particularly those who work with, live with or care for older people, including neighbours, friends, families and carers.

You will learn how to assist a person aged 65+ who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan. This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

If you would like to become an accredited Older Person Mental Health First Aider and also take up an additional opportunity to refine your new listening skills in a creative community setting then the Listen Share Learn program is for you!

LISTEN SHARE LEARN PROGRAM  is an innovative program, initiated and produced by Shoalhaven Health and Arts and Bomaderry Community Inc and funded through Australia Post and the Vinnies Bushfire Community Recovery Grants.

It offers accredited Older Person Mental Health First Aid training with an additional opportunity to gain “ears-on” experience with older Shoalhaven residents in a series of creative community afternoon teas hosted in Bomaderry.

Registrations are now open for community members across the Shoalhaven to claim their spot in one of the free two-day Older Person Mental Health First Aid training courses. You can also take up the option to RSVP to become a Volunteer Community Listener at one or more of the creative community afternoon teas in Bomaderry between March and May, 2022.  Volunteer Community Listeners are supported in their listening role by a Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Please note – You do not have to register as a Community Listener to be eligible for the FREE Older Person Mental Health First Aid Training.
