Illawarra Forum Training Opportunities

It’s AGM time again and you maybe planning to engage new board members for your organisation or need to refresh current board members skills.

The Good Governance; Essential Board training is a great foundation for new board members and has been updated to include amendments to the Associations Incorporation Act (2009) and the new Regulation (2016) that began on 1 September 2016. If you have already attended this training you may like to refer a friend or colleague to the training.

In response to a number of requests we have also designed a Fabulous Finances course for board members covering understanding financial reports, budgeting, and risk and fraud prevention. This training is a must for all board members – not just Treasurers.

The Foundations of Facilitation training is on next week. Whether you are chairing board meetings, groups or simply meeting to plan a project, the skills you learn in this training will enable you to become a dynamic facilitator.

Illawarra Forum Annual General Meeting

Our AGM will be held Wednesday 11th November 2015 at the fabulous new SYFS Shellharbour Hub from 10am.

The AGM will feature guest speaker Mark Isaacs – author of The Undesirables described on ABC’s Big Ideas as “a gobsmacking eyewitness account of the shambles and the shame that is Australia’s offshore processing policy”.

Mark will speak about his time working in Nauru from 2012.

In October 2012, Mark was employed by the Salvation Army to work at the Nauru Regional Processing Centre. He eventually resigned from the Salvation Army in June 2013 and spoke out publicly against the government’s No Advantage policy.

Mark’s book, The Undesirables, accounts for his time inside one of Australia’s most infamous detention centres. Since leaving Nauru, Mark continued his passion for humanitarian work and was employed for two years as a social worker at an asylum seekers settlement agency in Sydney. He is now traveling the world as a freelance writer.
