CALL for VOLUNTEERS for the Port Kembla Billy Cart Derby

Red Point Artists, organisers of the Port Kembla Billy Cart Derby, would like to invite expressions of interest from volunteers for the PKBCD on Saturday, 16th November 2013.

Street Marshals for Junior Divisions

Time: (first group) 8 am to 10am & (second group) 10am to 12noon.

Duties: To (1) guide young drivers and their billy carts from finishing line to the trailer for return to the Start line and to (2) let people know when the vehicle and trailer are moving across Allen street.

Number required: Two teams of eight required – each on duty for two hours only.

Each volunteer will be offered a free two-hour training session and issued with

  • High-visibility vest
  • Official ID
  • Morning Tea or Lunch voucher (redeemable at Senior Citizens Centre kitchen)

Street Marshals for Senior Divisions

Location: as for Junior Divisions.

Time: 12noon to 2pm & 2pm to 4pm (two ‘shifts’).

Duties: as for Junior Divisions, but recovery vehicles will continue along Wentworth Lane to Church Street and into the top of Wentworth Street.

Number required: as for Junior Divisions. NOTE: The same two teams of eight may agree to serve alternate two-hour shifts over the day (each doing one morning and one afternoon shift).

Each volunteer will be offered a free two-hour training session and issued with

  • High-visibility vest
  • Official ID
  • Lunch or Afternoon Tea voucher (served at Senior Citizens Centre kitchen)

Parking Marshals

Location: Electrolytic Street entrance to the former Port Kembla School grounds bounded by Marne Street, Reservoir Street and Military Road.

Time: 7.30am to 10am

Duties: To (1) direct visitor vehicles to park along marked lines to ensure easy access and exit; to (2) direct visitors to the event areas in Wentworth and Allen Streets.

Number required: Two at gate, two at pedestrian exit to event site.

Each volunteer will be offered a free two-hour training session and issued with

  • High-visibility vest
  • Official ID
  • Morning Tea voucher (redeemable at Senior Citizens Centre kitchen)

Some minor adjustment in location or time may be necessary on the day, but this will not affect the operation of volunteer squads.

Peter Kenyon – Dinner & Workshop Forum

With our next visit from Peter now locked in for the 25th and 26th of July we are wanting to add some ‘CONVERSATION’ time with an informal get together at Costa Azzurra Woodfire Pizza on the Thursday Night, followed by a faciliation workshop session on the Friday. ‘Walk and Talk’ with Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre

10am-12pm, Monday 15 July 2013

Meet at Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre, inside Thirroul District Community Centre and Library (352-360 Lawrence Hargrave Drive), Thirroul for a 10.15am start

Wear your walking shoes for a morning of walking and talking with Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre (nothing too strenuous, just a light stroll!).

We will have a walk & talk around the centre, then visit the streets of Thirroul through to the Thirroul Community Garden in High Street to hear how the Centre has harnessed the strengths and skills of the community to run programs and activities in partnership.

Morning tea will be provided and coffee available for purchase.

Asset Based Community Driven (ABCD) – Facilitator Training Workshop: Wollongong – 6 May 2013

Just wanted to let you know about a series of ABCD Facilitator Training Workshops being organised in five locations across Australia which includes one at Lighthouse Wollongong of Monday the 6th of May, 2013.

It will be facilitated by a team of community development practitioners with experience of leading ABCD – Asset Based Community Driven initiatives across the globe, including Jim Diers and Dee Brooks
