NSW Government says thank you to carers
Nominations are open for the 2015 NSW Carers Awards, which will recognise up to 55 individuals and organisations, plus 10 Highly Commended recipients, across NSW this year.
You can nominate individual unpaid carers who provide exceptional ongoing support to someone who needs it because of disability, chronic illness, mental ill-health, dementia or frail age and organisations that go above and beyond to support carers for a NSW Carers Award.
One in ten people in NSW are carers. They are ordinary people like your neighbours, colleagues, friends and family members and they face challenges and rewards as a result of their caring role.
With this in mind, who do you know who you’d like to see recognised with a NSW Carers Award during Carers Week this year?
You can help to show your appreciation for carers by promoting these awards through your community and networks. Posters and brochures can be obtained by contacting the Carers Awards Project Manager on 02 8753 9408 or carers-awards@facs.nsw.gov.au.
The support that carers provide to people enables them to live independent lives and is fundamental to family life and our community wellbeing. If you need any more convincing about why carers are important, it has been estimated that it would cost more than $40 billion to replace the hours of care provided by Australian carers.
Nominations are open until 29 June 2015. To be eligible, individual carers must not be paid for their caring role although they may receive a pension or government allowance (eg Carer Payment or Allowance).
