Multicultural Health Workers and Hepatitis B | What you need to know
According to the 2011 Hepatitis B Mapping Project, it is estimated that there are close to 3000 people living with chronic Hepatitis B in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven area with 40% born overseas, predominantly from China, Vietnam and the Philippines.
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) Multicultural Health Service in collaboration with the Australasian Society for HIV Medicine (ASHM) and the HARP Unit invite you to a free three hour workshop on Hepatitis B
Tuesday 26th July

The workshop will:
- Improve your knowledge and understanding of hepatitis B
- Increase your awareness of the impact of chronic hepatitis B on CALD communities
- Discuss your role in increasing awareness of hepatitis B among CALD communities
Multicultural Health Workers are a key asset in supporting their communities around Hepatitis B for better health outcomes.

The Multicultural HIV and Hepatitis Service in partnership with Healthy Cities Illawarra are offering a free hepatitis B workshop for CALD community workers
Hepatitis B is a virus that can cause liver damage and liver cancer. The majority of the 218 000 people with chronic hepatitis B were born overseas. About half don’t know they have it. Without appropriate care and treatment up to 25% of people with chronic hepatitis B will die from complication of cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Raising awareness in our communities is vital to address this serious health issue.
This workshop will:
- Improve your knowledge and understanding of hepatitis B
- Increase your awareness of the impact of hepatitis B
- Provide an opportunity to discuss your role in increasing awareness of hepatitis B among CALD communities
