Regional NAIDOC Week Awards | Nominations Now Open

The Local Government Regional NAIDOC Week Awards honour and acknowledge outstanding achievement by Aboriginal people and organisations within our regional community, celebrating the best of Aboriginal talent, culture and community.

As part of our commitment to Aboriginal Australians, Wollongong City Council, Shellharbour City Council, Kiama Municipal Council and Shoalhaven City Council organise this event each year to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

The awards are held in July and rotate between each council area.

Shoalhaven City Council will host the awards this year on Saturday 18 July at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.

Nominations are now open for the 2015 Regional NAIDOC Awards and will close on Friday 4 July 2014

Nominations will be received for the following categories:

  • Elder of the Year (Female & Male)
  • Community Representative of the Year
  • Young Achiever of the Year (Female & Male)
  • Worker of the Year
  • Organisation of the Year
  • Outstanding Contribution to Reconciliation

Southern Phone Grants Scheme | Kiama

Ideas for community-based projects in the Kiama area can become a reality under a new grant scheme made available to the municipality.

Southern Phone Company hopes to fund a number of community-based projects with a total of $25,000 of grant funding on offer to provide a physical asset for, or service to, the local community within the Kiama LGA.

“Previously, community grants have enabled great projects such as a refugee exchange program, music albums, theatre productions, arts festivals, environmental work, cultural art and much more’, said Mayor Brian Petschler. “I encourage all of our community groups to work with Council to take advantage of this valuable opportunity and create projects that enrich our community and often leave a legacy for future generations”, he said.

Kiama Council is responsible for collating and submitting the grant applications.

“I congratulate the Southern Phone Company on this initiative to assist local projects”, said Mayor Brian Petschler. “Kiama Council is a foundation shareholder in this successful which business based on local government”, he said.

If you are unsure please contact the Southern Phone Grants project office on (02) 67665222 to discuss your ideas prior to submitting your application. Successful grants will be announced by Southern Phone Company before the end of the year, with money dispersed by June 2015.

If you are interested in submitting a grant applications please ring (02) 4232 0444 or drop-in to the Council Administration Centre at 11 Manning Street Kiama. We will give you a copy of the guidelines plus the terms and conditions. Applications close at 4pm on Friday 14 November 2014.
