Regional NAIDOC Week Awards | Nominations Now Open

The Local Government Regional NAIDOC Week Awards honour and acknowledge outstanding achievement by Aboriginal people and organisations within our regional community, celebrating the best of Aboriginal talent, culture and community.

As part of our commitment to Aboriginal Australians, Wollongong City Council, Shellharbour City Council, Kiama Municipal Council and Shoalhaven City Council organise this event each year to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

The awards are held in July and rotate between each council area.

Shoalhaven City Council will host the awards this year on Saturday 18 July at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.

Nominations are now open for the 2015 Regional NAIDOC Awards and will close on Friday 4 July 2014

Nominations will be received for the following categories:

  • Elder of the Year (Female & Male)
  • Community Representative of the Year
  • Young Achiever of the Year (Female & Male)
  • Worker of the Year
  • Organisation of the Year
  • Outstanding Contribution to Reconciliation

2015 Good Neighbour Scheme

The 2015 Good Neighbour Scheme has been launched on Tuesday 24th March with an exhibition and ‘backyard’ display at the Shellharbour Village Exhibition Space.  The display will be open from 10am – 1pm weekdays between the 24 – 30 March.  Residents will be encouraged to tell us what a good neighbour is to them, nominate a neighbour or upload photos to neighbour selfie on social media. If residents would like to enter the competition online, they can at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2015GoodNeighbour

Following National Neighbour Day, there will be a two community parties held on Friday 10 April from 4:30pm at John Shepherd Park, Albion Park and the following Friday 17 April from 4:30pm at Flinders Village Green, Flinders.

The 2015 Good Neighbour Awards competition will open on the 24th March and close at 4pm Friday 1st May, with winners announced at an awards celebration in May.
