HSC Tutoring Day

Do you have a child in year 11 or 12?

Kiama Library is holding a full day of lectures and tutorials, filled with exam tips, to support Illawarra HSC students.

These school holidays on Tuesday 8th July, lecturers will be lending their expertise to local students to help them prepare for their exams.

The subjects covered are:

  • English (Standard and Advanced)
  • Ancient and Modern History
  • Advanced Maths and
  • Biology.

All events have limited spaces so bookings are essential.

The cost is $5 per student, and they can choose to come along to one session or multiple sessions.

Tickets can be purchased at the front desk of Kiama Library or over the phone with a debit/credit card on (02) 4233 1133.

The event is generously sponsored by the Friends of Kiama Library.

There are also other events going on around the Illawarra:

  • Headspace are running free workshops for students on dealing with stress and how to study effectively. They are run 7th July, 14th July, 21st July and August 18th from 3.30-5pm. Call 4220 7660 to book.
  • At 6.30pm Wednesday 27th August at Warilla Library, Rowan Kunz will be giving a talk on study tips and maximizing your marks in the HSC. Tickets $4, call 4297 2522.

Can I study Community Services while I work?

The answer is yes!

If you are currently employed in the Community Services sector in the northern Illawarra district, TAFE NSW Illawarra Institute offers a work based learning program that may suit you.

Programs are offered in:

Alcohol & Other Drugs | Community Services Work | Disability Work | Home & Community Care | Lifestyle and Leisure | Youth Work | Community Services Coordination | Case Management | Mental Health | Counselling | Community Development

Courses are offered from Certificate IV to Diploma level, and usually take between 6-12 months to complete.

A feature of the work based learning program is that your study program is customised to suit your particular needs. Your teaching advisor will work with you to design an interesting, relevant learning program. You will also have the opportunity to attend workshops and network with other work based learners.

As part of your training program you will receive recognition for qualifications and skills you already have.
