Breaking the Silence

Family Violence Awareness Dinner

BReaking the silence“Where the Church is present, the mercy of the Father must be evident. Where there are Christians, everyone should find an oasis of mercy.” Pope Francis proclaiming the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy.

In response to Pope Francis’ call, the Diocese of Wollongong, through an initiative led by the Diocesan Schools Council and supported by the Office of the Bishop, CatholicCare and Catholic Education, is hosting Breaking the Silence: Family Violence Awareness Dinner on Thursday 11 August 2016. The dinner will gather people from around the Diocese and beyond to listen to and engage with three amazing keynote speakers who deal with the ramifications of family violence in our community:

  • Dr Eman Sharobeem (Australia Day Ambassador and SBS Community Engagement Manager) will give a powerful testimony on her experience of family violence.
  • Judge Paul Conlon SC (NSW District Court Judge and Former NRL Judiciary Chairman) will speak on the increasing prevalence and motivating factors of family violence before our courts.
  • Mr Michael Austin (Director of CatholicCare Wollongong) will speak on the effects of family violence on family members and the wider community.

Breaking the Silence promises to be an unmissable evening in the diocesan calendar in this Year of Mercy.

Tickets are only $60 per person which inlcudes a three course dinner (drinks can be purchased at the bar). We are encouraging parishes, schools, agencies and communities to get in early and book there table of 10.
