Minister for Multiculturalism Ray Williams today launched a new $1.2 million round of the successful Community in Partnership Taking Action (COMPACT) Grants Program.
Mr Williams said organisations have an opportunity to join an alliance of community partners who reach deep into the community to support youth who are isolated or feel disconnected.

“Many of the young people I have met who have participated in our COMPACT programs are now leading positive, meaningful lives, which is why we are extending this initiative,” Mr Williams said.

“Our partners, such as the NRL, provide young people opportunities to get involved in sport, while other programs like PCYC offer community mentoring support.”

“Sometimes young people just need someone to talk to, COMPACT helps start the conversation.”

More than 20,000 young people have already benefitted from COMPACT.

NRL Youth Advocate Christina Tabone is one of 2,500 students who completed the NRL and Moving Forward Together Association’s In League In Harmony program.

“This program helped me boost my confidence and leadership skills to run a big event at my school to mark Harmony Day this year,” Miss Tabone said “With all the skills I’ve learnt, I’d love to work in community engagement after school to help others.”

The new round of funding will support partnerships between community, private sector, youth, sports, arts/media, and educational organisations by providing funding for innovative youth projects.
