Shellharbour Food Hub
The Shellharbour Food Hub program has now commenced. The program is a partnership with Oz Harvest, NSW Health and Food Fairness Illawarra / Healthy Cities Illawarra, along with the three local neighbourhood centres – Albion Park, Albion Park Rail and Warilla.
The food parcels are being distributed through those local neighbourhood centres – see contact details below.
Community members should contact the neighbourhood centre closest to them to express their interest in receiving a parcel. Each organisation will have their own eligibility requirements (generally they must be in receipt of a Centrelink payment) however other circumstances will be considered and they are encouraged to contact their local centre to discuss their needs. Those neighbourhood centres can also provide other types of material and social supports.
Additionally, community members can contact Council on 4221 6111 and speak to a member of the Community Life Team to discuss other supports that are available.

OzHarvest- leading food rescue organisation will be establishing an office in our area
OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it directly to charities and community organisations supporting people in need across the country. We have been actively supporting Oz Harvest’s search for a permanent office in our region.
OzHarvest have found a site with The Flagstaff Group and will be setting up a small office, warehouse and garaging of vans with this social enterprise that provides meaningful employment for people with disabilities. This development enables OzHArvest to collect more quality surplus food, distribute it to people in need and divert food waste from landfill. There is now an additional refrigerated van operating for pick-ups in the Illawarra. That doubles the food rescue organisation’s capacity to pick up rescued food locally.
OzHarvest is seeking the support of local food businesses to donate unused and surplus for distribution to the community. Food donors can be supermarkets, hotels, wholesalers, farmers, corporate events, catering companies, shopping centres, delis, cafes, restaurants, and boardrooms. More info on how to donate link
